Rubric for US Culture paper/project
Students of US Culture and Society, here is the rubric I will be using to grade your papers for the class. You are not REQUIRED to print this out or bring it to class, this is for your reference, to see what I am specifically looking for in your work. As you can see, the points add up to 100. This paper will be 10% of your grade.
The papers will be 5-7 pages long (NOT LONGER, you will start getting points taken away if it is longer than 7 pages!!) + a Works Cited page
For your topic, you can choose from anything that interests you, however, the more narrow the topic is, the easier it will be for you to write about it. The reason for this is that when you have a very broad topic, you have too much information you need to include. The limit of written pages is 7, so if you are writing more than that, you NEED TO narrow your topic.
For example, if I wanted to explore something related to the American Civil War, I would not say my topic is "The US Civil War." That is too broad. I would want to narrow it. I am a woman, so I am curious to know what roles women played in the civil war, so I googled that. I got too many resources, my paper would have been too long. I narrowed the topic down to "Women Spies in the US Civil War". (There was another topic I could have chosen, "Women soldiers in the US Civil War")
If you have any questions, please ask me, as always.
