We went over what to study for the final exam. Here is what we generally talked about:
How did immigration change over the course of the history of the US. where they came from, what prompted ppl to emigrate (leave) their countries, how the demographics changed, how the US changed in reaction to immigration, also how immigration reflected the needs and/or the opportunities in the US.
Know characteristics of important legislation regarding immigration: approximate dates, what the legislation addressed, and how it affected immigration.
Know the general “waves” of immigration and what kind of immigration corresponded to what “wave.
Know how the education “system” changed over time, what schools looked like, what education emphasized.
Know how education affected minority groups in the US.
Know at least one contemporary issue in education—be able to describe in, why it is important in US education, and what could be done to fix or address it.
Mass media: Know the different ways to analyze mass media, be able to tell me which one you think you would like to use to analyze the media in the US and why.
Be able to tell me how the news in the US is presented, tell me some of the problems that modern news media faces. Be able to tell me how the portrayal of international news affects the views of ppl in the US towards the “outside” world.
